First Aid Unit

Locate us: The First Aid unit is adjacent to the Wallingford Medical Practice

Please note: The First Aid Unit is independent of the Medical Practice.

Opening times: 08.30 -18.30 Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

No appointment is required as we are a drop-in service.

Who we can see and treat: The unit is staffed by an emergency nurse practitioner and a health care assistant. As a general guide we see patients with new, acute injuries. If the injury is more than 3 weeks old you should see your own doctor, otherwise we are able to assess and treat simple injuries that cannot be managed with a home first aid kit, such as:

    • Cleaning and stitching of simple wounds

    • Insect bites and stings

    • Minor burns and scalds

    • A foreign body in the eye

    • Minor head injuries – bumps to the head where there has been no loss of consciousness

    • Simple sprains

If there is any question of a fracture you will be referred onto another hospital for an x-ray. This will usually be the minor injury unit at Abingdon Hospital, however if there is an obvious deformity, you will be referred to a regional emergency department.
