Some medications are required on a regular and ongoing basis. If this is the case then it is likely that your doctor will authorise you to have repeat prescriptions.
Once we receive your request for a repeat medication, the prescription team will create the prescription and it will then be signed by your GP.
Due to the high number of patients requiring repeat medications, it is not possible to turn around requests for repeat medication immediately. We aim to process requests in 2 working days, but this can take longer at peak times like Christmas and Easter. Please try and help us by making requests early at these times.
How do I request a repeat medication?
Patients can access the online ordering system via the link at the top of this page. Please see the 'Online Services' section of our website for details of how to register for this service.
You can nominate a pharmacy for us to send your prescription to directly, or opt to collect it from the surgery yourself. You will be able to log on to your account to see the status of your request. Once the medication is 'accepted' you will know that the doctor has signed the prescription for you. If you have chosen to use Electronic Prescribing this will mean your prescription is 'instantly' available for your pharmacy to issue to you, although they will still require time to be able to dispense it for you. If you have not chosen to use Electronic Prescribing then the paper prescription will be printed and sent to your chosen pharmacy or the dispensary if you are a dispensing patient.
We strongly encourage you to register with the online service to order your repeat medications. As your request goes directly to the doctor's computer account, it reduces the number of pieces of paper that can potentially get mislaid or overlooked so that we can turn around prescription requests faster.
Any patient who has not yet been registered with the new online services account, can request prescriptions via email to the dispensary team at email@example.com

Please state whether you would like to collect your prescription from the surgery or whether you wish it to be sent directly to a local pharmacy.
You can also use this email address for any queries you may have.
Please note that due to the volume of prescription requests (approximately 5000 per month) it is not possible to respond to each request confirming that medication is ready to collect.
With each new prescription you will have a tear off slip to keep. This lists medication that you are able to have on repeat.
To make a repeat request, tick off the items you require on the tear off slip and either put it in the repeat prescription box at the dispensary window or send it by post to the surgery - marking the envelope “Repeat Request”.
You can collect your prescription at our reception, request that it is sent to a local pharmacy or if you enclose a stamped addressed envelope we will mail it to you.
In person request
If you no longer have a tear off slip, during opening hours, Monday to Saturday, you can visit the surgery and complete a prescription request slip at the dispensary window.
Please put as much detail as possible on these slips, including a contact telephone number and address or date of birth and indicate whether you wish to collect the prescription from the surgery or a local pharmacy.
Some of the local pharmacies offer to order your repeat medications for you. The request comes from the pharmacy to the surgery and we then process the request in the normal way and then return the prescription to them.
Please be aware that there can be a delay in the prescription request coming to us from the pharmacy that is outside of our control, and so it may take more than 2 working days for a prescription to return to them.
Please also be aware that the pharmacy computer system is not directly linked to the Practice computer system and if you tell the pharmacist something, the message may not make come back to your doctor. It is always better to communicate directly with the practice if you wish to make any important changes.
You are welcome to fax the dispensary to request your prescription, although if you are reading this, you will probably find it easier to email your request to email@example.com.

Please include your name, address, date of birth, details of the medication you are requesting and a contact telephone number in your request. Please make it clear where you wish to pick up your prescription from.
Unfortunately due to the sheer volume of medication requests (approx. 20000 per month) we are unable to take these over the phone.
We endeavor to have prescriptions ready for collection 2 working days after we receive your request but this is not always possible at peak times and holidays or if a doctor needs to authorise the request. Prescriptions can be collected during Practice opening hours, Monday to Friday.
Some Pharmacies have a collection system and if you are part of this system then clearly mark the tear off request with the chemist of your choice.
Repeat Medication Reviews
The number of repeats that you are allowed is decided by your doctor and will need to be re-authorised when the maximum is reached. You may be asked to see your doctor to enable further authorisation. If a review is needed then it may take more than 2 working days for your request to be processed.
